Selection Process

During Round 1, applicants will be evaluated based on the ability of their advanced surface technology to improve energy efficiency in the petroleum and chemical processing industries, as well as on the technology’s potential to be scalable, to be widely deployable, and to be durable.

Select applicants will be invited to advance to Round 2 and asked to discuss their technology and business model in greater detail through written responses, phone interviews, and/or remote presentations. Any confidential information identified and disclosed as such by the applicants will not be shared with the industrial sponsor or outside of the Fraunhofer organization.

Awardee(s) from Round 2 will be selected based on the technical and business merits of their technology and the potential impact of their technology in addressing the Challenge topic. Awardee(s) will receive Fraunhofer development and validation services valued up to $100,000 (prototyping, validation, and/or demonstration) customized to the needs of their technologies.
